FAQs

The questions that reach my inbox most often, answered plainly, about the notes and the habits behind them.

Things worth settlingbefore the first change

Starting out

I would begin at the busiest point of your day, because that is where a small repair shows up soonest. Choose one note that matches it, hold the change for a week, and leave everything else untouched until that first habit runs on its own.

One is usually plenty. When I stacked three changes into one week I could never tell which had worked, and I had abandoned all three by Thursday.

No. What I publish is general information about ordinary daily living. It is not medical advice, a diagnosis or a course of treatment. Symptoms, medication, pregnancy or a long running condition all belong in a conversation with a doctor or another qualified professional.

I drop it without any fuss. When a habit argues with the calendar every day, the calendar is the thing worth listening to, not your willpower. Shrink the habit or move on to a different note completely.

Food and meals

No. I build the pairings from eggs, beans, oats, frozen vegetables, yogurt and whatever fruit is cheap that month. On the rare occasion I name something unusual, a normal stand in follows it immediately.

I keep no banned list. My notes mostly deal with additions, an extra handful of greens or a second egg in the morning, which means the meals you love stay right where they are.

Often yes, because I describe the shape of a meal rather than a fixed recipe. Even so, allergies and medically restricted diets need personal guidance, so run any change past the professional handling that part of your care.

Not at all. Plenty of my notes assume a can, a bag of frozen vegetables and five minutes. I treat convenience food as an ordinary part of a week and not something to apologize for.

Movement, sleep and energy

No. I build the movement ideas around walking, stairs, stretching and short bursts that clip onto something already in your day. Use a gym if you have one, though nothing I write depends on it.

Shorter than most people expect. A few minutes after eating, repeated on most days, has done more for me than one long walk that only happens when the calendar clears.

Anchor the habit to an event and not a clock time. Water when you sit down, daylight after you wake and a closing signal before sleep will all survive a rotating schedule, while a fixed bedtime will not.

For me it was a thin lunch, too little water and hours indoors without moving. I have written on each of those separately so you can work out which one is yours.

Using this site

It opens an account so I can send new notes and updates to the details you give me. The consent boxes you tick decide which messages arrive, and you can change them whenever you like.

Reply STOP to any text to end them, or reply HELP if you need support. Writing to me through the contact page works just as well, and I act on it without asking why.

I use what you enter on a form to answer you and to send the updates you agreed to receive. The Privacy Policy lists exactly what gets collected and how long I keep it.

Send it to me through the contact page. Anything I am asked repeatedly tends to end up on this page, so your question often helps the next reader too.
